School Tales: Miami Vacation

So a few weeks ago, I had my 8th graders plan a vacation to Miami as their time & money management project. I gave them a $1200 budget for a Friday night-Sunday night trip and had them write their schedules according to what they wanted to do in Miami. We learned all kinds of fantastic tidbits about scheduling, comparison shopping (hotels, airfare), writing checks, using credit cards wisely, booking flights/flying on airplanes...or so I thought.

Here is part of a project I received:

FRIDAY

9:50= Plane lands
9:50-10:15= get bags, take limo to hotel
10:15= change clothes, get limo to South Beach
10:30-7am= go to clubs, get wasted, pick up girls
7am= pass out in hotel

SATURDAY
11:00am= Wake up
11-12= Eat, change clothes
12-7= South Beach, lay out, drink, check out all the hot girls & celebrities
7-10= eat, sleep
11= PICK UP HOOKERS

SUNDAY
noon= wake up, shower, eat
2pm= head to the bar
5pm= leave for the airport
7:05= flight leaves

VACATION BUDGET
Airplane= $462
Hotel= $220
Food= $50
Limo= $110
Clubs= $100
Drinks= $250
HOOKERS= $600

Teacher's Comments:
RE-DO. You are over budget and living beyond your means. Moreover, you will need a $200+ allowance for doctor's appointments & medications associated with the sexually-transmitted "souvenirs" you pick up from the hookers and nasty, drunk girls. Oh, and don't forget to factor in hundreds-thousands of dollars for the numerous MIPs (MINOR in Possession) and PIs (Public Intoxication) you will receive from getting drunk and acting the fool. At least you are "taking a limo" back to your hotel. DUIs are very expensive.
