When walking around on the street, good girls here keep their gazes fixed on the ground at all times. There should be no looking around at other people. You certainly never look a man in the eye. That tells Moroccan men that you are loose and easy and possibly a hooker. I love to look at people. I also like to know my surroundings. Since watching people is one of my favorite activities, I have found this exceptionally challenging here. Sneaking glances at people is difficult. And I have been caught a few times. For this reason, I have resorted to wearing "eye shields" morning, noon, night, rain or shine. It allows me the freedom to look where I want, when I want, at who I want. I can gawk as little or as much as I wish. I am not sure whether my eye shields are 100% impenetrable. That's a risk I am willing to live with. However I have devised a little trick. I will tilt my glasses down while still looking up and around. Nifty, eh?
