Week One

So far, I am having a blast, and excited to go to work each day! Yes folks, I realize that it is the start of the year and I'm in "honeymoon" mode with the kids. But really, I don't remember having this much fun last year- - probably because I was terrified of doing something wrong. This year, I am better prepared, better organized, more relaxed, more firm, and more fun. And because I am having fun, the kids are having fun!

It's going to be an interesting year!! I still have all of my favorite gangbangers. And like last year, I also have kids from all over the world. This time- Egypt, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Lebanon, Colombia, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Vietnam. One of my Muslim girls from last year came back from summer vacation wearing a hijab (traditional head covering) and long clothes to school. It is still so odd seeing her all covered up because she used to wear skimpy little outfits like all of the other girls. She also used to be so loud and talkative...now she hardly says a word. It is as if she is invisible in her new get-up. She is not entirely comfortable with the hijab yet because she's always fidgeting with it.

YES! YES! YES! YOU WIN, Kids!! That's the way to score major points with MS. K!! Or is it merely the candy you want from me? Hmmmm...but this fun and nice? BAH. Let's see how fun and nice I am in two months. EVEN WORSE...FEBRUARY.
