This is a fairly typical Moroccan salon akin to the American "living room" or "den". The Moroccan salon is usually very large with low-lying couches and pillows arranged around the room. The set-up is perfect for lounging and sipping "Berber whiskey" (which I'll address later!) with the scores of family members and friends of hospitality-minded Moroccans. This is not a great picture, but notice the detail on the ceiling. Moroccan residences are impressive- typically larger and more ornate than American counterparts, with marble, granite, and molded embellishments throughout. A basic Moroccan 2/2 apartment might be two to three times larger than a basic 2/2 apartment in the States. Among my favorite memories of the summer were lounging in our salon with my roommates. We would all be sprawled out on the couches with a good read, carrying on a conversation, or simply enjoying the 6th floor view of the busy promenade below.
