The Waiting

Still waiting on the Lord to answer a prayer of mine to resolve a particular situation. How sick I am of waiting because I am OH SO IMPATIENT. It is as if God wants to show me how little patience I do indeed possess. Ironically enough, I have heard this random Tom Petty song on the radio several times in the past week usually when I am most annoyed with the circumstance. It is as if Tom mocks me through the radio:

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you get one more yard
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part.

Uhhh thanks, Tom.

But really, doesn't it always seem as if we are waiting for something to happen? Summer vacation, traveling, a new job, a bigger paycheck, a degree, getting married, having kids, retirement...etc. On the grander scale, life itself just one big waiting game as we, Christians, wait for our eternal "reward", for Christ to come back and our new heavenly residence. "Behold I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done."(Rev. 22:12)

As we run this earthly race with much perseverance, the Psalms offers much encouragement for the "waiting" times:

You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness (Ps. 65:5)

Come and see what God has done, how awesome His works in man's behalf! (Ps. 66:5)

You, Oh God, tested us; You refined us like silver (Ps. 66:10)

Praise be to God who has not rejected my prayer or withheld His love from me! (Ps. 66:20)
