Baseball and Cracker Jacks

So today Leslie and I teamed up for a lesson on American baseball with our classes. We taught them sports vocabulary, baseball positions, and how to play. We divided up into teams (Astros and Reds) and went out to the yard to have a practice game...which they LOVED. They went back outside for recess and played an impromptu game by themselves. We compared and contrasted baseball and soccer using a Venn Diagram, and taught them "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" which was an excellent segway into rhyming words ("jacks" and "back"). Later, we shelled peanuts, added popcorn, and drizzled melted caramel over to make our own Cracker Jacks. We got lots of "zwin" (Arabic for "Nice, beautiful"- used to describe food). Baseball was an entirely new concept for them which made the lesson especially entertaining, or at least for me :)

Hey, maybe sometime soon you can continue the baseball lesson by describing to them the agony of watching Wagner blow an All-Star Game for the NL!

Very un-"zwin"....

See you soon,

You aren't teaching them about the designated hitter, I hope. What an abomination.
