Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me. (John 14:1)
Sunday
I sleep in and lay in bed halfway through the morning. I need it. I am worked over. I pack up, check out of the motel, and go for a long drive. It's exactly what I need to clear my head. I am still an emotional basket case. I can't help but second-guess myself.
I drive 80 or so miles over the state-line. I get out of the car, step on Minnesota soil, get back in the car, and drive toward Cedar Rapids. I'm late for my flight and need to make up some serious time. Twenty miles out and I'm running out of gas, with not a gas station in sight. I venture off the highway onto a small farm road. I must have driven five or ten miles. It's a miracle I don't run out of gas. Lo and behold, a rinky-dink gas station on my right. It has one pump (pre-pay inside) that appears to be 50+ years old. I wish I had taken a photo. Exactly what you'd picture would be in a small town in Iowa. I fill up; God comes through, once again :)
I make my flight with plenty of time to spare. I make my next flight from Dallas to Houston. The return trip home is uneventful, underwhelmingly so.
In the weeks after the job fair, I spend much time needlessly questioning the decision I made. I think almost daily about my "perfect" job offer in Lebanon and cry on the inside for having rejected it. Am I crazy? I am sick of thinking about it and wondering about something I cannot change. I ask the Lord to help me be comfortable with the choice I made and He comes through. The director at my school in Egypt emails me and offers me the 6th grade science job instead of the one I accepted (that's good news!). I discover that a girl I met at the fair also accepted a position at the same school. I hear great things from multiple sources about a large expat church in Maadi. I hear of several others- believers- who are living and working in Cairo. I rest, again, in God's sovereign direction of my steps, confident that His plans for me are best, even when they don't seem "perfect".
