"Equality"

Composing nearly seven percent of the Egyptian population, Coptic Christians are a small, but powerful minority. Many are descendants of the original Egyptians who resided in Egypt before the Arab invasion and ensuing subjugation and forced conversions. Nearly 1500 years later, Copts and other Christian denominations continue to be marginalized and even actively discriminated against by the Muslim majority populace and government in Egypt, as noted by numerous organizations, including the Human Rights Watch. It is no surprise that Egypt ranks 21st of the countries in which Christians face the most severe persecution. (Seven of the top ten countries have an Islamic majority.) In principle, Egypt recognizes equality under the law for all of its citizens regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or gender. Clearly, this is not the case in practice.
