Ignorance is Bliss?

Ladies,
Just how safe is that shampoo you lather on each morning? What about the mascara with which you gloss your lashes...does it contain known carcinogens?

Have a look-see at the Cosmetics Safety Database.

Though I am now armed with new insight into many of the products I currently use, I am unsure as to whether this will change my life/beauty regimen. Perhaps this was a bit more than I cared to know?! While I am passionate about guarding the mostly good health I have been given, sometimes I struggle to find a healthy balance between wise stewardship and hyper-concern. Considering the larger picture, perhaps step one of my healthy living/cancer prevention plan should be to take up residence somewhere other than Cairo.

Welcome to my world! Where I work, I hear about toxins like this in our environment regarding our health every day. At first I was paranoid, but now I realize that the knowledge enables me to make informed decisions. I started out with gradual changes and now I use mostly natural products. I've drawn the line at avoiding parabens, formaldehyde, and pthalates for now.

It varies because I usually just read labels and then pick, but Jason's brand is pretty good, usually organic shampoos, Pure&Natural body wash, and Bare Minerals makeup. Probably not all completely clean, but at least steps in the right direction. The Me 4 Years Ago would think the Me Now is really weird. :)

My suggestion would be to learn the names of common carcinogens and then you can just read the labels. I need to post this info on my blog, I've been putting it off due to possibly being pegged as a weirdo. :)

I was up late last night and saw this a few hours after you posted it. Half the crap I use is scary. Now I just wish that I could go back about 1 day, back to a simpler time, before I knew my face wash was killing me. :D

Thanks so much, Em. Of course, I don't use makeup and only wash my face with soap. Ivory soap is a "5" moderate danger! That's it. No more will I use any soap. People around me will just have to bear my good health.
