Déjà Vu

I make numerous trips a week to the grocery store purchasing supplies for the cooking labs. It seems as if I am perpetually forgetting an item, or mis-calculating the amount of an ingredient required for 15 lab groups.

I found myself at H-E-B around 6:30 this morning for my third trip of this young week. Although I was purchasing entirely different ingredients, the trip felt oddly familiar. Oh wait, it was exactly the same shopping trip as last Friday morning. I had the same checker. The same father with the same daughter (approximately 7 years old), wearing the same clothes (him: blue polo shirt and jeans, her: frilly pink dress with a pinafore) waited in line in front of me. They let me check-out ahead of them-- just like last week. The same 60 year-old alcoholic wearing the same bright yellow t-shirt and hot pink short shorts checked out behind me with the same case of Coors Light and the same package of Sara Lee blueberry muffins. I thought the exact same three thoughts:

a) Mmmmmm...breakfast?
b) Do they sell beer this early in the morning? (They do, indeed)
c) I wonder if he picked up the muffins so he's not that guy
buying just a case of beer at the crack of dawn?

Or maybe he likes muffins. I'll ask next time.
